Who is behind this site
Niko Stavros
Niko is a wine tourism specialist who lives and works in Portugal's Douro Valley. Since 2022 he has been guiding international visitors through the region's wine experiences, and by his own count more than 1,000 travelers have spent a day in the valley with him. His ground is the practical side of Douro wine travel: which quintas open their doors and how a visit actually runs, how a tasting is poured and paced, and how to build a day that fits the terraces and the river instead of fighting them. He knows Port production and vineyard culture the way you only can from being there through the seasons, harvest included. Ask him what makes a Douro day work and the answer stays short. A small group, a real estate visit, and time built in to just look at the valley.
The traveler count is Niko's own figure. The rating and group size are the operator's current Viator listing data, not ours.
What Niko does and does not do here
Plainly: Niko guides wine travelers in the Douro, but he does not run the three tours this site features. Those belong to their operators, Oporto Road Trips, Portugal Wine Tours and Douro autêntico, who sell them through Viator and GetYourGuide. Niko's role on this site is research and judgment. He knows the valley firsthand, the quintas, the viewpoints, the harvest rhythm, so he vets each featured listing the way a working guide would, without pretending to be behind its wheel.
That distinction matters to us. A guide claiming firsthand experience it does not have is the exact thing we built this site to avoid. Where Niko speaks in first person, it is about the region itself. Where a claim is about one of the three tours, it comes from the operator's listing and is framed that way.
How this site checks its facts
Every figure on this site traces to a real source. Each tour's rating, review count, duration, group size, inclusions, meeting or pickup details and cancellation terms come from the operator's official GetYourGuide or Viator listing, and we re-check them against the live pages rather than letting them drift. Where a value moves, like the flagship tour's price for a given date and currency, we send you to the live listing instead of freezing a number that could go stale.
Facts beyond the listings, things like train times or harvest dates, stand on official and primary sources, and where we could not verify something we leave it out instead of guessing. You can see the approach at work in the tour comparison.
